I think that the Obama wedding registry thing is odious and preposterous.

However, the number you show below aren't at all a reasonable picture
of the money race. Obama started out with a decent amount of money in
the bank from the last election. He's also been able to raise money
toward the general election for a longer period than Romney has
because Obama didn't have a contested primary. Donors are allowed to
give once toward the primary and then once again toward the general
election but are only able to give toward the general once the nominee
has been ordained by the party (which, oddly enough, doesn't have
anything to do with the convention where they are formally nominated).

Obama has more money in the bank. However, the campaign spent more
than they raised during the last reporting cycle. I still think he'll
do comparably in the fundraising scheme of things. Romney still stands
to get a giant boost from PAC spending.

It's all odious to me and I want the whole campaign financial system
tossed out the door. None the less, until it is, we should be more
careful about understanding and saying how it really works, not some
partisan snapshot of a half-truth.
