> AKA waste money :P

I suppose that depends on how much you value your experiences. When
we moved into the house we're renting we painted inside and replaced
the faucets in the bathrooms and all of the light switches and
electrical outlets. Total cost was a weeks' worth of evenings and a
couple of weekends to get it all done, but we plan to be in this house
for 4-5 years so it was worth it for us to spend a couple hundred
dollars on improvements that will prevent years of annoyance. Some
people told us it was a waste because we don't own the house, but I
tell them it's an investment our own happiness and comfort. Nothing
wrong with spending a little extra on a hotel (or whatever else) to
get a better experience if you can swing it.
