We are in moderate drought conditions here in the Chicago area. It's been pretty bad. I am part of a group of backyard scientists that measure precipitation daily...the NWS and NOAA use the data we provide. I have been part of this since January and we have had only about 30 days of rain and only 2 of those days have been an inch or more. The bulk are in the <.10 - .30 inches range...with only a few getting as high as .80 inches. I live a couple of blocks off the Fox River. The river starts up in Northern WI and travels down through IL to flow into the Illinois River...so it's a pretty major river system. The other day I saw some fishermen standing in the middle of the river. The water was just below their knees. Normally that would have been a lot deeper at that point.
