I try and do local veggies and meat when I can. I am lucky that I live on the fringes of the Chicago area now and most of it is very rural and lots of farmland. I would love to participate in the CSA's out here, but it is costs a lot up front. It probably comes out to what I am paying at the store...maybe less...but you pay it upfront and then they bring you x amount of meat/veggies every month. I really want to do that as the money goes right to the farmer...plus I know what they are feeding their cattle and spraying on their crops...you really don't know that at the store. Most of the places that have CSA's are organic producers.
