So, since I have a Windows based laptop that sits around doing nothing and I
was bored, I decided to upgrade it to Windows 8 yesterday. The installation was
seamless, but then it was installed over a fresh version of Windows 7 so no
surprise there. It's an interesting version to say the least. Last night I was
getting frustrated with it but when I logged back onto my machine this morning
with fresh eyes and a fresh brain, it was actually pretty easy to figure out.
It's pretty intuitive and actually easy to use once you find out where
everything is. IIS and MySQL installed very easily as well. have not put CF on
it yet though. I'll get around to that later on today. Office 2007 also
installed very easily. I can't find my office 10 download so I don't know how
well that will go. Chrome also installed easily and it did not take long for MS
to figure out there was another browser and I of course go the "hey, look at
me, I am not the default browser" nag screen that I got rid of pretty fast. And
so far I have not had any of those annoying ass pop ups asking me if I really
want to install something because MS automatically assumes I am an idiot. I
noticed no difference in the speed of my machine from Windows 7. In fact, I did
not have any web development software installed on it before the upgrade
yesterday, and it's still running as good as it did last night with a fresh
install of 7.
What I also find interesting is that it's the first version of windows that I
recently bought that is under $100.00.

Interestingly enough, but to no surprise, MS is already being sued.

Apparently SurfCast had the idea of live tiles patented several years ago, and
they allege that MS knew this as recently as three years ago. It will be
interesting to see how this one turns out.
