I disagree. There is more active charity around, and I've been noticing more simply random acts of kindness lately. Most crimes are down considerably, violent crimes are at a historic low in most western countries. For instance in 2011 Canada had a historically low rate of firearms related homicides.
As for Sandy Hook, as more information is coming out, it appears this has nothing to do with morality, social decadence etc., Rather it was an extremely disturbed person had access to an assault rifle.
