That was a large part of the interview that I heard on NPR - the fact that
the law now requires the reporting of these kinds of things.

My opinion is that this law was passed, "because we have to do something!"

Unfortunately, no aspect of the law as passed is guaranteed to have
prevented either Sandy Hook or Webster.
