Not related to Sam's temper tantum but I just found a very interesting study that may help to explain the other leg of this model of neurophysiological correlated of political involvement I'm trying to develop.
A step into the anarchists mind: examining political attitudes and ideology through event-related brain potentials. Kristof Dhont, Alain Van Hiel, Sven Pattyn, Emma Onraet, and Els Severens Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience (2011) The present study investigates patterns of event-related brain potentials following the presentation of attitudinal stimuli among political moderates (N¼12) and anarchists (N¼11). We used a modified oddball paradigm to investigate the evaluative inconsistency effect elicited by stimuli embedded in a sequence of contextual stimuli with an opposite valence. Increased late positive potentials (LPPs) of extreme political attitudes were observed. Moreover, this LPP enhancement was larger among anarchists than among moderates, indicating that an extreme political attitude of a moderate differs from an extreme political attitude of an anarchist. The discussion elaborates on the meaning of attitude extremity for moderates and extremists. Keywords: brain; anarchism; ERP; extremism; ideology; political attitudes (One nice thing about this study is that it was free and published in a very reputable journal). I'm going to have to go over this one a few more dozen times, its very complex and the late positive potentials results do complicate things quite a bi ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Order the Adobe Coldfusion Anthology now! http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-Coldfusion-Anthology/dp/1430272155/?tag=houseoffusion Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/message.cfm/messageid:360599 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/unsubscribe.cfm
