To be honest I did not get dropped a lot. Why? Because my drill sergeants were
batshit crazy Vietnam vets, and I was scared to death of them. So I worked hard
to do everything right. Still, I did get dropped and other interesting stuff
during basic because we are not perfect.

This is what I am getting at. Privates are not as scared of their DS as they
should be. I see them every day at work. I see the looks they give their DS
sometimes and hear how they talk to their DS, and to be honest if I were their
DS I'd make their life as miserable as possible for their entire 15 weeks of
training here if they did some of the shit I have seen them do here.
The DS's hands are tied though. They are mandated to follow specific guidelines
now. The privates know that and they work hard to push the right buttons in
order to see a DS get thrown off the trail. When I was in basic, we never even
once considered hemming up our DS for something we didn't like. We had the
attitude that this is how it is and suck it up and move on.
But then guys like you, me and Tim are from a different generation.
