"I'm not sure Calipari's one and done bonanza is necessarily the wave of
the future."

True. Not every team is going to be able to attract the one and dones.
However, I think there will be more teams emulating his style than there
are now, unless the following changes it.

There are some rule changes in the pipeline for the NCAA that ramp up
academic requirements significantly. A lot of one and doners maybe
relegated to JC after the changes.

You are right in that some teams still do it the old fashioned way. It's
just that they rarely are dominant. There will be exceptions every four or
five years that are great and are upper class heavy.

About the new NCAA rule:

It starts with higher requirements for incoming freshmen. Beginning in
2015, incoming recruits must have a minimum GPA of 2.3 in their 16 core
courses with a corresponding SAT/ACT score that sits on a sliding scale.
For example, a recruit with a 2.5 GPA needs to get a score of at least
1,000 on the SATs to be eligible. Higher grades mean lower required SAT
scores, and vice versa. The NCAA also required 10 of the 16 core courses to
be completed before the start of the student's senior year in an effort to
prevent emergency summer school sessions that are used for initial
eligibility purposes. For incoming junior college transfers, the
requirements are even more stringent, as the athletes need a GPA of at
least 2.5 on their transferable credits.

The part about having 10 core classes done before a student's senior year
might be the thing that makes the JC circuit the new stomping ground of NBA
scouts.
