"Was life better before the Revolution than it is now?" I don't think that question is answerable at this moment. The new dictator is trying to consolidate his power and shut the military out. The military is trying to maintain it's power. The citizens are caught in the middle. With no viable third choice, I would suspect a return to the same conditions that existed in Mubarak: total oppression with a secret police force and secret prisons to keep the people in line.
