The letters mean go f**k yourself. Who is to say they lied? Whose to say at some time in the future this extensive set of background checks would in fact turn into some kind of big brother type of gun registration?
And answer this. How would any bill like this have prevented Adam Lanza from doing what he did? The guns belonged to his mother, not him. All extensive background check would accomplish is to make it more difficult for honest law abiding citizens from owning guns. And we all know that criminals or potential criminals will not abide by this as they currently don't abide by the laws we have in place now. I have no issues with registering the guns I have. In fact, it's in my best interest to do so since if my gun is stolen I can go in and report it as such so that if its used in a crime I won't be held responsible for it. However if they are going to dig deeper into my background, thus taking it longer to purchase a gun, I am not for it. I am a law abiding citizen and I don't feel I have to be subjected to having my background dug deeper into. Sent from my iPhone 4S.
