I have some fundamental problems with the article you cited, 'Gel. Mainly
with this sentence:

"Under the existing system, more than 40% of guns are purchased without a
background check."

They throw out a number without pointing to a source. Some searching
turned it up... from the early 90's, based on a shaky survey.
http://factcheck.org/2013/03/guns-acquired-without-background-checks/

But it sounds good, right? How about this next paragraph, this one written
by me:

Also, while 86% of respondents to the poll said they would favor background
checks, 50% of registered voters disapprove of how the Obama administration
is handling the gun control issue... and only 43% approve. Only 55% think
that new legislation can be passed without interfering with gun rights.
Furthermore, approval of background checks has actually declined over
time, even among democrats.

Those statements are factually true according to the survey. So is the
fact that of those polled, party lines broke out 36% independent, 33%
democrat and 23% republican.

So a stale data point to sell the concept, data that doesn't look all that
much like a representative sample and data that looks somewhat out of place
based on other answers. Forgive me if I yawn.

Until Later!

Every cloud does have a silver lining. Sometimes you just have to do some
smelting to find it.
