Futurama Canceled Again

By Jesse David Fox

Entertainment Weekly reports that Comedy Central has decided not to renew
Futurama for any additional episodes. As a result, the second half of
season seven, which is set to premiere on June 19, will be the series' last
thirteen episodes (for now, maybe). Futurama was first canceled by Fox back
in 2003, after a four-season run. After reruns on Adult Swim started doing
well, Comedy Central agreed to air the show's four direct-to-DVD movies as
a fifth season and then eventually pay for two additional seasons.
Considering its often-dicey status, this announcement didn't come as a
surprise to executive producer David X. Cohen: "I felt like we were already
in the bonus round on these last couple of seasons, so I can’t say I was
devastated by the news.” Creator Matt Groening is not completely losing
hope: "We would love to continue. We have many more stories to tell." At
this rate, by the time Futurama actually ends, it will be the 31st century
and we'll all just be heads in jars.
