Beth- (and any other ferry+bike fans out there) got a suggested trip for you: ferry to Angel Island in middle of SF Bay. Can bring bike on ferry (or rent one there). Island is about 900' tall, can ride to top. Awesome views of SF, Golden Gate etc.
