G, remember those neurological differences I've pointed out in the past between self-identified conservatives and progressives? First of all a more active amygdala (the part of the brain that processes fear and anxiety information) inhibits exploratory behavior among other things. In people its been found to do the same with curiosity. When coupled with a less active anterior cingulate cortex (which means less tolerance for ambiguity, more difficulty with nuanced reasoning and logic, and a higher capacity to tolerate uncertainty and conflicts), conservatives being hostile to science is almost expected.
