Subject: Where I am

The answer to the subject is nowhere. I had to move out of my apartment of
18 years at the end of July. I was supposed to move into a new place a few
days before the end, having previously given the new landlord a deposit. He
begged off saying that the house was not ready and could we wait for Sunday
(the 4th). At this point we also gave him a check for the first months rent
and security.
We moved all of our stuff into the garage, basement, and side yard of my
parents house and stayed over the weekend. Sunday came along and the
landlord said he wasn't comfortable letting us move in without a lease and
he was waiting for one from his lawyer. A standard one from Staples wasn't
good enough.
Monday rolls along and we hear that his lawyer said that he should not give
the lease to us but instead should give it to our lawyer. We got a friend to
give his lawyers number and we waited. and called. and waited. and called.
Thursday we finally hear from him saying that he decided not to take us as
tenants and the reason was that he tried to cash the rent/security check
and it bounced. The account was $20 short and the bank didn't extend
protection to the check.
Maybe it was because he was using a check cashing place to avoid the money
showing up in a bank account and coming to the attention of his soon to be
ex-wife. Either way, he flaked on us.
So now we're stuck in my parents house, living out of bags of clothing, our
stuff packed away, no phone, no internet, and trying to find a new apartment
before the holidays (starting next week). Add to this a new contract with
the city for me, school for all of the kids other than my youngest daughter,
who we had to find a new school for, and my mother has to go into the
hospital to get what was said to be a bunch of tumors biopsied. Oh, and
because I was waaaay to late on invoicing a client, I'm out about 20k which
I was depending on to deal with apartment and yeshivas.
But I'm alive so at least I've got that in my favor. That's a good thing
right? right?
