No one gets elected without the money from the lobbyists so expecting politicians to listen to the people they are supposed to work for instead of the special interests that put them in office is a waste of time. And after the Supreme Court handed the power to the corporations with the Citizens United decision, any power the people ever had is gone. Government "of the people, by the people and for the people" was never anything more than a line in a speech.
