Answer: It doesn't. It sticks to things it is designed to stick to. The key is to use a container not made of a material it is designed to stick to.
Also, sub-answer: If it is adhesive and not cohesive, then the only parts that will stick to the container is the layer in contact with the material and the rest of it should flow because it is not sticking to itself.
