I got my wife an iPad 2 awhile back and she and our daughter are the primary users. It's pretty nice. I've been thinking about getting a tablet of some sort soon, especially since my newspaper has now gone to Thurs-Sunday home delivery but has the print-layout version available online every day. Yes, I'm one of those people who still gets the paper delivered.
I've been eyeing the Kindle Fire HDX. More than anything else, I like the family customizations it has built in. Looks like I can set up logins for my kid, have bigger icons that are easier for her to use, set up timers for allowed amount of time with games, set up allowed content she can watch via Amazon. Pretty slick sounding. Might work well as something that we can share. She's just turning 7, so definitely doesn't need anything of her own for a couple years, but I do like to let her have profiles and apps of her own.
