I was introduced to scotch when I was 16 - I was in a pipe band and we took part in the Edinburgh Massed Pipes tatoo at the edinburgh castle. Imagine about 100 pipe band with about 1500 or so bagpipers.
Anyhow, we did so well that our pipe major decided to celebrate and brought in a lot of very good scotch. Him and the other senior pipers then taught us how to drink it. Never looked back. Scotch - actually good Scotch is very different from what you expect.
