I remember seeing one comedy routine about this although the pet was a turtle. After going through all the stuff we've discussed, the kid is upset. The father then talks about having a nice funeral, with cake and icecream etc. afterwards. Then the father noticed the turtle was alive. The kids stop his sniffles and say "Lets kill it."
