Bruce / Erika -

How you doin in this storm?

I left the office for lunch at noon in normal traffic conditions. It had
started snowing but so what? I came out of the restaraunt an hour later in
Midtown Atlanta and it was total gridlock. Took me 10 minutes to get out of
the parking lot and an hour to get just a couple of blocks. Everyone in the
city was trying to get on the freeways to go to their houses made of
ticky-tacky out on the burbs. Finally I just parked the car and went inside
a local bar till about 5PM when more people had gotten on the freeway and
the surface traffic had cleared a little bit.

Luckily I don't have to go on the freeway at all to get home and by 5PM I
was able to get home quickly. But most of the freeways in Atlanta are still
(at 8:30AM the next day) total gridlock since yesterday just after lunch. A
teacher friend of mine spend the night in her elementary school with 20
kids who's parent could not get home last night. Another friend stayed in a
Waffle House last night because of being stranded.

It is totally unreal around here right now. We are approaching 24 hours of
total gridlock on the freeways. People are running out of gas. Sleeping in
their cars. A baby was born on I-285 last night.

I have never been so happy that I don't live in the burbs.
