The deplorable state of internet in the US seems set to get worse, and in a
way that affects everyone in the world.

Level 3 recently said that some US ISPs were intentionally allowing their
ports to become congested and refusing to upgrade, an issue which affects
everyone accessing those networks. The intent seems to be to add some
weight to their claim that they need to charge more for Netflix streaming
because their networks are congested ;-).

Now, several major tech companies, and it seems worldwide companies, have
sent a letter to the FCC stating that net neutrality should be enshrined in
US law, even if ISPs need to be defined as common carriers in order to
achieve that.
