Drugs and rest, alas. I hardly ever take pain killers, but hernia surgery
took me down for a solid week, with pain killers for a fair amount of that
time. And that was in my 20s. I'd hate to think what recovery would be like
now.

I will say that with Netflix and the like, TV watching is a lot better
these days. So relax and move as little as you can, if you are taking
opiate pain killers, know that they can cause constipation and that you
might want something to help with that as pushing isn't really compatible
with abdominal injury.
