And Californians' insistence on saving every tiny creature at any 
expense, such
as diverting water resources. That state is just reaping what its sown 
for decades.

It's now becoming an "us or them" situation, with "us" being the people and
the "them" being any creature threatened by habitat change. Once the people
are threatened the concern for the creatures' habitats disappears.

So much for principles...
