It was called Palestine by the Romans after they booted the Israelites out. It was called Palestine in the Crusades. The name of the country, after the Romans took over, was Palestina Prima, Secunda, and Tertia Palestina Prima was Judea, Samaria, the coastal areas, and Peraea. Palestina Secunda was Galilee, the lower Jezreel Valley, the regions east of Gaililee, and the western part of Decaoplis. Paletina Tertia consisted of the Negev, Southern Jordan, and most of the Sinai. Under Byzantine rule, it was also called Palestine. During the middle ages, under Arab rule...it was called Palestine. During the Crusades, it was briefly called the Kingdom of Jerusalem by the Crusaders, until they were defeated by Saladdin. Finally...under the Ottomans...it was also called Palestine. Even the British called it Palestine. Prior to 1952, the last time the last was called Israel was before the Roman occupation.
