The right to self defence argument doesn't hold up to scrutiny under international law. They never pulled out of Gaza and palestinians have never had a day of self governance. The whole Hamas is endangering civilians. Here's what Israel said, and what it has held to. Disproportionate force is intentional, not an accident or unavoidable. "What happened in the Dahiya quarter of Beirut in 2006 will happen in every village from which Israel is fired on. [â¦] We will apply disproportionate force on it and cause great damage and destruction there. From our standpoint, these are not civilian villages, they are military bases <http://www.jpost.com/Features/Front-Lines/The-Dahiya-Doctrine-Fighting-dirty-or-a-knock-out-punch> ." Interesting. The quotes seem to be correct, and there doesn't seem to be an indication that the stance has softened since then. Here is what International Law requires: "Even assuming that Israelâs claims were plausible, humanitarian law obligates Israel to avoid civilian casualties that âwould be excessive <http://www.icrc.org/applic/ihl/ihl.nsf/9ac284404d38ed2bc1256311002afd89/50fb5579fb098faac12563cd0051dd7c> in relation to the concrete and direct military advantage anticipated.â A belligerent force must verify whether civilian or civilian infrastructure qualifies as a military objective. In the case of doubt, âwhether an object which is normally dedicated to civilian purposes, such as a place of worship, a house or other dwelling or a school, is being used to make an effective contribution to military action, it shall be presumed not to be so used <http://www.icrc.org/applic/ihl/ihl.nsf/9ac284404d38ed2bc1256311002afd89/f08a9bc78ae360b3c12563cd0051dcd4> .â The United States complied with this in its operations in the Middle East in Iraq as much as possible, based on reports. That's why the civilian deaths with drone attacks caused so much uproar. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Order the Adobe Coldfusion Anthology now! http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-Coldfusion-Anthology/dp/1430272155/?tag=houseoffusion Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/message.cfm/messageid:371865 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/unsubscribe.cfm
