Unless it would be in violation of a content distribution contract they
have with cable companies outside of the UK. Then it would cost a lot,
measured in lawyers stacked to the rafters. Some contracts restrict content
beyond what you would think it would include (video).

Old school media companies are struggling to keep up with the pace of
internet innovation and it's not just technology problems they have. Many
have really long multiyear contracts that specifically restrict them from
participating in any new innovations during those time periods.

It's starting to look like those contracts are getting better though with
HBOGO recently announcing plans to offer access without a cable
subscription. I don't know how this could impact access in other countries
though.
