Pearl Harbor had fictitious characters doing fictitious things.

The allies knew about the enigma machine. In fact, there had been some
intelligence
from the Poles that described the machine. The Brits at Blechley Park had,
in the
process of breaking the code, built an enigma machine that looked almost
identical
to the real thing. The first enigma machine recovered was by some British
sailors
from a German sub. They had just stumbled upon it. They didn't go looking
for it.

What problems are there with U-571. I wasn't aware of the enigma coding
machines
until I watched that movie, so I have nothing to compare it to, unlike pearl
harbor where there are several movies out there with their version of pearl
harbor. Have you seen "tora, tora, tora!" ? part of their storyline is
about
the 2 guys just like in pearl harbor. Although I think Tora,Tora, Tora is
more
accurate then pearl harbor.

Historical fiction kind of annoys me. It annoys me because most people
will
read or watch it and believe it to be true. Like the movie "Pearl Harbor".
The
other reason it annoys me is it tends to give credit to fictitious
characters
while ignoring the real men that were there. Like the movie "U-571".

thats why I wanted to know the accuracy. Since the holiday draws near here,
I've noticed there have been alot of movies on about WWII and other wars in
US
history. The WWII have caught my attention, I think its interesting to see
the
pieces of WWII the movies agree on and where they add their own "intrigue"
(if
you will) to the storyline.
