Sounds like an exciting project to do as a web version with links,
multimedia and a search engine, but if you have to do a text version, I
would do it more in a table format... for example:
SKIN
First make sure it is not an emergency: If there is shortness of breath,
etc.... -> emergency section.
Explain the terminology: for example:
a bullae is blah blah blah (WITH A PHOTO!)
A nodule is blah blah blah (with photo)
Explain distribution patterns (like extensor surfaces, and the little folds
on the faces, etc..)
THEN
Have a big table with possible diagnosis down the left side (with the page
number where it is discussed in detail) , and features of the disease
across the top: (maybe in landscape mode)
For example:
Blisters? painful?
Itchy? Nodules? hives? on hands? on face? on Extensors? oozing?
yellow?
green? time of year? fever?
Acne [p.xx]
Poison Ivy [p.xx] [none | few | Many ] [no | mild | sever] etc..
Fifth Disease[p.xx]
Maybe split it up into smaller table:
IF there are blisters use this table.
IF there is xxxx use xxx table
etc..
this way, they can narrow it down faster. The way it is now, they have to
read everything.
