In college we had a very nasty trick we would do to the American college fencing teams that would come up here. The night before we would take them out drinking. 2 things to remember, the drinking age in Canada is 18 or 19 in most places. Second, Canadian beer is stronger than US beer. So you'd get some arrogant twit (for some reason fencing attracted that sort) saying he could drink a case without ill effect. We'd let him prove it. After the sixth beer or so the poor fool would be under the table. The rest of the team would be not much better shape.
Since we'd be paying for the night, hey we were good hosts, it would cost a bit, but the real dividend happened the next morning during the tournament. Its difficult to fence decently while you are very hung over. One of the teams from Michigan tried to return the favour when we were down there for a tournament. Unfortunately they forgot that American beer is not as strong as the stuff we were used to. But it was a free night of drinking so we didn't mind. larry -- Larry C.
