I'm sorry, but you need to check the facts.

Which has convinced me that military support to anyone but stable, 
democratic governments is a bad thing.

Depends if you mean relative as in the time that the US is doing this 
compared to the time European countries have been doing this, or 
relative as in the time the US is doing this compared to the time the US 
exists.
