Deanna, your timeline starts in the 1800s and totally misses the Jewish claim to the
land of Israel. That claim starts much earlier, and that's where your history should
start. Israel was never part of Syria -- the Arabs considered it part of greater Syria.

Let's look at the facts. There's been a Jewish presence in Israel since Biblical
times. The Jews are the only people on Earth who hold Israel as their primary land and
Jerusalem as their holy city. (Jerusalem is not mentioned at all in the Koran.) The
Jews are the only people whose holiday prayers many a time end "Next Year in
Jerusalem" and have ended that way for hundreds, yes, thousands of years. The
so-called Palestinians (as you read) are mainly Arabs who came to Israel because the
Jews were making something out of it. Before the Jews came, the land was desolate. It
was a disaster area. The Jews came and built it up. Because the Jews were building it
up, the Arabs came from Egypt, Trans-Jordan (which is 80% of the Palestinian mandate,
which modern Israel is only 20% of) and other Arab countries. Even the prime
Palestinian (Yasser Arafat) is an Egyptian born, raised and militarily inducted. If
any of this history is neglected in a cliff note version, then the cliff note version
is simply not doing its job.

There's a lot more I could say about the history of Israel and what it means to the
Jews. But let me just leave it all with this one last thing. In all the history of
Israel, the only time that every holy site was available to everybody was when the
Jews were running it. When the Christians were running Israel, the Jews weren't
allowed to go to their holy sites (nor were Moslems, for that matter). When the
Muslims were running it, the Jews were still not allowed to go to their holy sites. To
make the matter worse, many Jewish holy sites were either destroyed or turned into
mosques because the Moslems do that. Look at what happened when the Arabs started the
Oslo war. The tomb of Jacob (which Arafat said he would protect) was destroyed -- on
camera, in front of the world. Destroyed and no one said a thing.

If a Jew even broke a window in a mosque, you'd have France, the European Union and
everyone else breathing down Israel's neck, condemning it.
