I was watching the History Channel a couple weeks ago and they did a show about Coke vs. Pepsi and their battle for market dominance. Apparently the Coke brass didn't think that the "image" of Coca-Cola would be well served by the "I'd like to teach the world to sing" ad; too "hippie-ish."
Go figure, according to the show, Coke sales jumped past Pepsi for the first time in something like 5 years when that ad started airing, it seemed to connect with a younger audience, a demographic Coke had been largely ignoring up til then. There were some other tidbits too like the original formula for Coca-Cola, and some really interesting print ad campaigns showing the focus of each company compared to the other... mmmmmmmmmmm... geeky will ---- William H. When I was a kid they came out with the "I'd like to teach the World to > sing" jingle for coca cola.
