I also think that pretty code is a good indicator.

Things I hate to see:
   random levels of indenting
   random changes in capitalization of variable names
   variable names like Budweiser or Fart2
   use of cfif sets rather than cfelseif or cfswitch (which could allow multiple true 
tests when not intended).
   setting 6 variables to the same value and randomly using them.
   no include files or custom tags but lots of reused code.
   6 lines of comments to describe a simple variable set
   no comments at all

But I am sure you have never done any of the above. (Although I have)
