Brian I used to work in Palo Alto, abutting the Stanford campus.
I am afraid there isn't much to do in Palo Alto & especially not in Menlo Park. If you have a car, it's an hour drive to the city, or The Redwoods, north of SF. If you're there on Saturday, go to a Stanford game if they're at home -- never sold out, fun afternoon-- Stanford has a semi-porno marching band that is usually better than the team. If you have transportation, you might try Rosattii's Beer Garden -- been there since the 1600"s, I think. Good, cheap food. Palo Alto has 2 downtowns -- California Avenue and University Avenue -- about 2 miles apart -- not really much in either. Have Fun!
