Actually there's a huge physchological gap between shooting somebody and
thrusting a sword (or a knife for that matter) into somebody's flesh.
Same thing with nearly any strength-based weapon - you either have it in
you to take that kind of direct action or you don't.

Many of the people that end up using a gun to kill would never be able
to smash a skull with a baseball bat or drive a knife into someone's
liver.  A gun abstracts the action and distances the user from the
effect.

There's also a much lesser chance of accident with a sword... You never
hear "I was looking at the sabre and it suddenly went off!" or "I
started cleaning my foil and didn't realize it was loaded!"

Lastly there's also a minor point of distance.  I don't think that
you'll hear many "sword sniper" cases...

As aside I used to fence quite a bit (yup - there are big fat fencers)
and if you want to hit anything with a sword you do, indeed, need to
know how to aim.  At least a little bit.  ;^)
