I'm an avid ebook fan, but with a PocketPC, so I may not have much in
the way of help.  However one site that might help is
http://www.memoware.com/ - they offer a very nice help section that does
a good job of cutting down on the confusion.

Specifically, http://www.memoware.com/mw.cgi/?screen=help_format , has
links to dozens and dozens of programs for dozens of formats on many
different OSes.
