Meandering thread? Uh oh. ;') People have been told time and again that you should never fight with your attacker. Whether this person is robbing you of your wallet on a dark street, or hijacking your airplane. Do what they say. Give them what they want. And they won't hurt you.
I think that this public conditioning made society complacent and fed a lot of crime.
