I dunno - I used to teach.  Some kids need leashes.

It may look bad, but it's a helluva lot better than losing a kid or
having them run out in front of a bus.

Although I can't say for sure.  Luckily as bad as my son has gotten I've
still never leashed him... But there's been a few times where, if I had
the leash already, I would have used it!

As for a straight jacket - well, if the mother's not physically strong
to hold him (or can't take the time due to other children or something),
then fine (I've been trained in child restraint - it ain't easy).  But
only in extreme moderation - if she's putting it on him for simple walks
to the part... Well that seems pretty excessive.

The comment that "he treats it like a game" indicates to me that the
jacket is being used more than it should be.  Any form of bodily
restraint needs to stop when the child calms down (and only used after
all other options have been exhausted).
