I don't backup to a DAT. But I do backups using HandyBackup it's been running each night for about a year with no trouble. It's an older version and doesn't archive so I am writing a script that goes in and copies the data to a dated folder. There isn't anything for Exchange or SQL. With SQL I use replication and then back up the replicated server.
