I'm currently working a somewhat similar deal. I work for Moonbow, and they
get the jobs. I work on a job by myself or with others. I get half of
whatever I bill. I pay my own insurance. The company provides computers,
bandwidth, free caffiene (a serious budget consideration) and do cool things
like send me to MacWorld.
On the other hand, I am an employee, not a consultant hired by them. It
makes a difference in paperwork etc. And, of course, it means that they are
obligated to keep me in work as much as possible, I've got backup if I run
into problems, and have bosses to run interference with angry clients on
those rare occsasions.
It works well for me -- I don't have to deal with too much paperwork, I
don't have to go hunting jobs, and it's steady.
