The author has the great fleet going in the wrong direction if they went to North America. There is ample evidence however that this fleet went to Sri Lanka, India, and then sailed up into the Red Sea and Persian Gulf regions before returning to China. The real tragedy was that while the fleet was away, there was a regime change and the new rulers squashed almost all records of the fleet's voyages.
