Some of the earliest references to Muffins from the archives are dated 05 February 2001.
They usually involved either ewika or Gel at first.It was customary to give a new member of the list a nice warm muffin as a greeting once they started posting :) There was a time when Ewika was able to pick out those who posted for the first time after lurking..before she became so busy and got married and all that stuff ^_^. Here is an old transcript involving Muffins and Ewika's horse Molly. A bit more digging might show when Python first popped up..I believe Ewika sicked him on me for some odd reason or the other.
