Actually, US Oil companies have a large stake in Hydrogen. BP dumped a lot of money into Hydrogen research about two years ago (right after they became BP) and other companies have started to take the hint.
I don't have a lot fo specifics, just talks with some of my Capitol Hill friends who are familiar with the issue.
