Subject: Suggestions for *inexpensive* hardware dealers

Okay, I've seen this list do everything from bring a couple together in
marriage to find a missing child to help people find jobs to pass out really
good baked goods... so I'll throw my "need" on the floor and see if anyone
has any suggestions. What I'm looking for is suggestions and comments on
vendors to purchase the equipment from. Aside from the router/switch I'm
not married to any particular model or brand, what I've listed is what I've
found so far.

My 16 year old brother-in-law goes to a small (45 student) Christian school.
Recently they mentioned that they'd like to be able to share one or two
printers between the 11 computers they have there to my mother-in-law. She
brought up the fact that I had just set up her network at home and could
probably help them out.

So I go an assess the situation. 11 computers in 4 rooms. 6 in the
"Fellowship Hall" (really big room) along one wall. Two in one classroom
that actually share a wall with 6 in the big room. Two more in another
classroom on the other side of the big room and down a bit of a
hallway/office and the last one in that hallway/office. I decided to do the
following:

Wire the 6 in the fellowship hall up to a dedicated hub for that room. Tie
the hub into a wireless router/switch and then put USB wireless adaptors on
the remaining computers. I already have a 17 port 10Base hub for the
fellowship hall. I've been poking around on the 'Net and here's what I've
found for pricing:

Realtek RTL8139 10/100 NIC's - $4/ea (need 4 total)
Robanton USB Wireless Adaptors - $25/ea (need 5 total)
Netgear MR814NA - $69

I picked the Netgear MR814NA for the router/switch because I have seen it in
action and was *extremely* impressed with the level of control that it can
exert on the Internet connnection. It has lockout by day and by time, IP or
URL restriction by complete address or by wildcard and an integrated email
alert when someone attempts to violate the policies! Since this school is
run by 4 volunteers and has 45 students, those kinds of controls become
imperative.

So I'll open it up to suggestions. Heck, I'll even open it up to donations
since all this equipment is actually going into a church (tax write-offs are
a wonderful thing).

Thanks!
Hatton
