why do people hate them, i would've thought in war those kind of troops are invaluable, like our green berets

That is impressive. What really sucks... One of the paratroops got tied up in the equipment and could not do the jump. Paratroopers in combat get a gold star for their jump, which is a very, very big thing in the paratroops. I hope he gets another chance later.
