I see nothing on the cover that favors one product over another.

  I can understand that a company that pays for advertising will generate 
more exposure than a company who does not.
  I understand that more exposure will (most likely) generate more customers.
  More customers will probably mean more votes.  When in doubt, 
non-customers will probably vote for the one they've heard of over one they 
haven't.

  Perhaps the lesson here is that if you want to generate awareness of your 
product or service you need to advertise it.
