Well, for one thing, it's not a scripting language.  This has benefits and
drawbacks.

I do like code-behind quite a bit.

ADO.NET is pretty insane with the amount of functionality in it.

Things like the datagrid are pretty hard to replicate by hand.

Also, although only partially related, Visual Studio .NET kicks ass.
